Okay, so the best laid plans...

Hmph. Office-hour yesterday was spent actually doing course related things. I keep forgetting that I leave all the tests to mark during that time.
So, in brief, to catch up... Nothing happens.
Study
After a long, empty term, I saw my supervisor about my thesis. We sorted out a 4 month plan of attack. I had to hand something in 2 weeks later, followed by every 4 weeks until mid-January. But when I handed in my first item, we decided that I needed to spend more time on this one text, so I have another 4 weeks in which to discover all there is to know about the manuscript, and how it relates to Etheldrede, and who owned it, and why it was written, etc.
Work
is ridiculously easy. I love inflicting Old English on poor innocents. Had a couple of not so pleasant moments this last week though, as we reached the point in the Dream of the Rood where the Cross instructs the dreamer to pray to it, and says it can heal people. In an attempt to forestall problems, I said "And this is where the Protestants get a bit uneasy". In two of my classes, I then had someone pipe up with "I don't like Catholics because they deny a person's right to approach God directly", or words to that effect. Arrgghh! How to make friends and influence people...
Life
Varies between hectic, and nothing ever happens.
-Took Mum and Dad to see The Orderly for Father's Day.
-Am planning, with my sister (and unfortunately, she's ended up with most of the work, what with going to the same church, and living in a more convenient location), a surprise 50th for Mum, to be celebrated on Dad's birthday. Mum's actual nativity was on the 1st of January, but there were a lot of other things going on at the time, so we put off having a proper shin-dig. She should be pretty surprised, by now.
-As reported by
theunshaven, the Wolverines have introduced me (
zcatcurious having done this sort of thing before, back in the Dark Ages of his Youth) into the fine art of role-playing, with Pirates: The Swashbuckling. Tonight will see our second session. We went out and bought a blow-up mattress today, in order to make their stays here, in the back of beyond, more comfortable.
-Our driveway has been improved. This meant that we were unable to drive up it for a week and a half - so we have gotten a bit fitter. 300 metres of near-vertical mud will do that to you. (And I'm leaving the 'gotten' in there, because that's what English used to do - one of the few things the Americans have gotten right.)
-We took Mynx, terror of the trees, in to the vet to have her teeth cleaned. This required sedation, and when we got our kitten back, we had one drunk cat. This made up for the night of no sleep we had had, when we had to remove her food-bowl, and keep her indoors for 12 hours. She was convinced her humans were broken, and took to attacking us at various times in the night. If we weren't going to feed her, then she'd take the blood herself.
We then had
neongraal and his fair lady to visit, so there were plenty of people to laugh at the poor, wobbly pussy-cat. Every time she looked up at us, she just about fell over. Sometimes she could get her front paws to obey her, but her back legs just collapsed at random intervals. And she wouldn't sit down, but kept wobbling round the place.
Well, that was long enough. I think that's all I have to say that's of any use. And I will try and keep more up to date, in the future.
