I had thought I was grumpy last night, but this morning takes the cake! It has dawned a most beautiful day, fresh after rain, with barely a cloud in the sky. So why am I grumpy with the weather?
On Thursday, after a day of solid rain, and with the forecast promising rain into the middle of next week, we did a really stupid thing: we postponed the picnic we had planned to raise money for Oxfam. The initial invitation was sent out with a rain date, but this is summer (sort of) and so everyone would have planned around the first date. Many people won't be able to come next week, and today is perfect! We thought we were being sensible and responsible, allowing people to replan their Saturday. Even last night, the weather forecast on the news was for rain most of today. Lesson learnt this week: never cancel until the day.
So, now, I will not get to see many of my friends today, which I was looking forward to. We won't raise as much money for Oxfam (though in our postponement notice, we encouraged people to donate online). And I might end up spending much of today inside, which I really don't want to. I'm half wondering if I should send an email to the Hoarde (our group of friends, the misspelling is enshrined in who we are(?)) to say, meet at the park anyway, and if you bring money for Oxfam, so much the better, but lets at least throw frisbees and celebrate summer...
Second guessing the weather is a silly game, and even more silly in Auckland. Because we're poised between two seas, sandwiched between two harbours, there is no way of knowing what will actually happen.
