Playing Chicken
Mar. 24th, 2008 09:33 amIt hasn't rained here for over 2 weeks. Much of NZ is suffering from a drought - either actually declared, or not. The kauri trees, evergreens, are droppping leaves like it's autumn (which, okay, it is, but they're not meant to notice). There are huge cracks in the clay of the landlord's lawn. So I hung out some washing overnight, and yes, the clouds came calling.
Now I'm playing chicken with the clouds. You see, there is some washing out there, 98% dry, which I need for today. I could collect it, and dump it in the drier for 5 minutes, and all would be well. Except that, if I do that, the clouds will scatter, and it will be another hot, dry day. My garden needs the rain, the forest needs the rain, even I need the rain - I've started dreaming that it is raining over the last couple of nights! So I sit here and work my magic, playing chicken with the clouds, and hope that this time it works.
Anyone got any other suggestions to make it rain?

Also, I had promised myself gardening time today, another reason for it to rain - finishing my iris bed by cutting down two more dead pungas, dragging them up the drive, stopping along the way to try and stop my heart escaping out my ears, carefully balancing them on top of one another, and filling with huge heaps of dirt. I'm planning to place all my spring bulbs there, too, so I have to start possum-trapping again soon.
And, in between times, rushing in to uni to pick up some books I should have picked up a while ago, to finish the next pitiful section that I promised my supervisor, and which I had been trying to do over Easter so that I would deserve some time in the garden.
