Ely and Beyond
Jan. 26th, 2009 08:44 amWe came as pilgrims, on foot, walking up from the river. The towers of the cathedral drew us onward and upward. And now I have been as close to St Etheldreda as I am likely to get in this life.

(Okay, we were walking up from the railway station, but it was by the river. And there were sign-posts to the cathedral, but we ignored many of them and did follow the towers.)
On Saturday the 24th of January, 2008, the day Ely Cathedral began celebrations for its 900th year, I finally got to see it.

Tomorrow we pick up a car, and head off across the country - one night each in Bath, Swansea, Worchester, Nottingham, and Whitby. Who knows where we'll find wi-fi, but we'll try and report in, occassionally.
