A few more successes
Apr. 11th, 2009 11:06 amYup, I am finally getting some things done.
- I got rid of the wasp nest in my iris bed (soon to be a vege patch), and replanted and repotted the plants there. Now I just have to find all the bulbs and put them in pots for a promise of spring.
- I started on sewing this coat (view b, minus sleeves), and it's nearly finished. I just want to make the hem-line more dramatic, but am afraid of cutting into it! It's been done in a very dark red fake suede, with a contrasting lining, and I've used the lining for the collar. I think it will look good, if I can bring myself to finish it. Photos will follow at some point, as there are a range of clothes I want to document as having been made by me.
- We've had a rather endless succession of visitors, and lunches, and more to come. I made dinner for our landlords on Sunday, and took it down to them, as our place is rather, well, small compared to theirs. Then we had zcatcurious's procedure on Tuesday, which should hopefully make him okay for the next trip, via Princeton to Lancashire, in a little over a week. On Wednesday we had lunch with friends in town, Thursday we had my sister and her husband round for dinner, and then yesterday I went to lunch with my supervisor and her partner, and left 4 hours later! They are lovely people, and I enjoy listening to their reminiscing about their travels and working around the UK and further afield. They were trying to find things for me to do while zcat's in the conference, and I think I would like to try and get to York for one of the days. (I did look up the price of trains to Lincoln from Preston, so I could bother
arcana_mundi, but it would be a 2 hour trip each way. Bother!)
Today we have our friends the Wolverines around, and will hopefully hear how much they enjoyed doing the 100km in 36 hours of Oxfam Trailwalker - they personally finished in 33. Then I'm having lunch on Tuesday with a friend/medievalist who is off to Kalamazoo, to discuss English identity, dinner on Tuesday with the medievalist who will be house-sitting the cat this time, on Wednesday I give plasma again, and some time I have to do some packing for the trip. We leave on the following Monday! (And I'm really sorry,
page_one, we're flying into Manchester airport, so can't get lunch in London. More bother!)
Hmm, I feel tired just listing all this. I should put the computer down, and go and do some gardening. Happy Easter and Passover, and any other excuse for good food!
