Conference happened Saturday and yesterday. It is now over, and I am allowing myself a two-day break, before gearing up for the new term.
We haven't eaten at home since Wednesday night.
Thursday we went to visit my parents on holiday. It turns out that Laingholm is not the end of the world - Huia is. We're just half-way there. On the other hand, the bach they were staying in, while having nice trees, a stream, and a swing outside, also had houses right there on three sides. What is the point of living way out there if you can see and hear people all the time? Our place is perfect.
Friday we had lunch (which is all we have for dinner) with
alasatyr at Nando's, followed by a drive up Mt Eden for a view. It was very good to catch up with him.
Saturday was the conference. This required us getting up at 7:30, two to three hours earlier than we've been used to over summer. Our day has been from about 10am-midnight. Getting up early surprised the cat. Here is Mynx, not yet awake:

Imagine her sitting there, swaying slightly, with her eyes mostly closed. Also note that her front paws are actually on her tail. I know exactly how she felt. The day went well, though. My paper was swapped with someone else's on Sunday, which turned out to be a good thing. I re-wrote it again on Saturday night. There was a conference dinner at Bolliwood in Ponsonby - the food was great, but even better was the Chai - reallllly good. No more cafe attempts for me. This bunch had tea in their chai, and the right mix of flavours. If you can, go there, order chai.
After dinner (which was early) we thought we'd better head out to Sir_Bastien's house-warming, but didn't stay long, as my ride was incredibly sleepy, and I was in no state to drive.
My paper was first up on Sunday, was perfectly timed, and my supervisor said after that it was very good and had developed earlier ideas well. That was all I needed. The conference ended with a display of swordsmanship - from someone who is much better with a sword than with words. He used his brother as dummy. Brave brother.
However, the next time I go to a conference, I want it not to be hosted by my university, so I don't have to be the go'fer girl. Big thanks to
jessikast for her help.
And now for random cuteness: my niece, who finally made it out to visit us for the first time:

So, now what? Uni starts back up next week, and I haven't done what I meant to do this summer. Also, I should start thinking about tutoring again, and get my head in the right space. Would it be very bad if I wore a corset to work?
