out of laziness. I read through everyone else's journals, and then can't be bothered writing anything myself. And yet there has been much to talk about: I've had two topics for posts suggested by friends (which I will get around to); I plan a skiting post about the place where we live, with pictures; and there is something currently on the boil about religion and stuff. This post is none of those.

It is, however, a catch-up on the exciting things that have happened recently. Starting on the 29th of March, with our landlords' wedding. (What is the correct collective for a landlord and lady?) It was held here, on the lawn in front of their house, with about 70-80 guests. [livejournal.com profile] zcatcurious and I were on hand to help with parking, and for those of you who know the place, we had over 15 cars parked here. More brave souls walked up the drive.

It was simple, informal, and one of the most beautiful weddings I have been to. I spent the day snapping pictures, and have burnt over 300 to CD for the landlords. We plan to blow one up onto canvas, but as [livejournal.com profile] zcatcurious and I can not agree on which one, we'll let them decide. The landlords are a very photogenic couple.

It was also the closest thing to a high-society wedding that I've attended. There were top architects from Auckland and Wellington, important lawyers, doctors, musicians, etc. They got drunk like normal people.

Then on the 30th of March I became an uncle. Or, at least, I finally got my first nephew. Lewis Tennyson (after CS and Alfred, Lord) was born a few minutes before midnight, and weighed 3.4kg (which is 8 pounds something). We went and saw him the next day, and he was small and sleepy. I got to hold him for a while, trying to wake him up for a feed, but I put babies to sleep.

[livejournal.com profile] zcatcurious and I had, for a while, struggled with finding a collective noun for nieces and nephews, and came up with nieblungs. We now have a total of 7: 2 nieces and a nephew on my side, from 2 siblings, and 2 nieces and 2 nephews on his side, from 1 sibling.

And then, this last weekend, [livejournal.com profile] zcatcurious and I did a silly thing: we volunteered for volunteering with the Oxfam Trailwalker. We drove straight to Taupo after work on Friday, arriving around 11pm. We got up at 4:30am, helped with the two start times of 6 and 7am, then directed people crossing the road from 8-12. We then went back to the YHA, slept most of the day, and got up for midnight, and worked through to 6am at the finish line. We then made it back to the backpackers for 4 hours sleep (thanks to Daylight Saving), before we had to check-out at 10am and drive back to Auckland.

While I'd rather not do that drive on that little sleep again, we had a great time. We saw the start and finish, and have decided that, while we will volunteer again, or be the support crew for a team (who were training this weekend, I see), and maybe trail-sweep one leg of the 100 kms, we are probably not mad enough to do it ourselves.

The event was a success, and if you feel like donating, the teams are collecting money until June. We have decided that donating time was a worthy thing, and will probably do that again - putting our mouths where our money is?

And now I should go and study, having been awake for an hour. I saw my History supervisor yesterday, as my English supervisor is on holiday. They have gotten together and decided I need a thesis statement, after the debacle of last year. So that's my next project - to put all the reading I've done to some use in planning my future.
