Picnic Review
Dec. 12th, 2007 09:39 amI suddenly thought I should update on how the picnic went, after two rather desperate posts about it.
zcatcurious's dad rang up yesterday and said, "How does it feel to have friends in high places?". It really seems like we do, as that Saturday was the only dry and sunny day in the last week. Thursday it poured, the Friday before was grey and windy, and the Sunday after, it poured as well, and has been raining ever since, but that Saturday was beautiful: blue skies, light, warm winds, and we got about 30 people.
Of course, because we had cancelled the picnic, we had fewer people than if we'd been sensible and waited to see what the actual day would be like. Never listen to the weather forecast, especially in Auckland, especially in summer...
Present were:
zcatcurious,
gorgox,
zcatcurious's parents, and friends (and grandkids, a shock to many of the Hoarde),
doc_spatial &
alasatyr, bringing a barbeque, my parents,
mirabrito &
theirreverent,
starfirenz &
gryphonnz,
theunshaven &
poing_critter,
debxena &
fuzzyben,
fridog & his lady, M'siur
leloupgris & friend, one half of Andy&Andy, and the Wolverines.
Things were thrown, and sometimes caught. Meat and pretend-meat was burnt on the bbq, plenty of food was had, few people got burnt (we parked the blankets in the shade this year!!). After much chatter, we managed to raise about $1000 for Oxfam, which we delivered yesterday. (So if you wanted a particular card, and we noted it down, we have it.)
And round about 4:00, when the sky threatened rain, we moved indoors to WokroofManor, and played card, board, and dice games, or continued to chatter until late into the night, despite the fact we were all sleepy 'cos of the day in the sun.
So the third annual Cow-Purchasing Picnic was a success, even with our mucking around about rain. Thanks all.
(And notice how many of our friends are on LJ? Not sure what this is a sign of, but I'm sure it's important somewhere. However, all of these people are friends I met in the flesh, before friending them online.)
Now, back to work. MUST read books. No, not that novel. Put it down!! Put it down now! And don't start playing PuzzleQuest. Just 'cos you're sitting at the computer, doesn't mean you're working!!
