Perplexicity, The State of,

First up, BIG HUGS to lots of people out there. I haven't read my friends' page in a couple of days, and catching up this evening, it appears that many people are really stressed. Hope things start to look better.
*moment of silent sympathy*
Now, down to the business of Perplexicity. I have seen an add for a job which is almost perfect. (For all those other Medievalists out there, looking for jobs, here it is. Lecturer in Medieval History, Massey University, Palmerston North, NZ.)
Pros:
- perfect timing. My thesis is due on the 1st of September, and it starts on the 31st of August.
- kinda perfect level: they want recent, or finishing, PhD in Medieval History. Mine is in History and English.
- I have most of the qualifications - I just haven't published anything yet, as I'm trying to finish the thesis, and it got all broken half-way through, so I've had more work to fit in the 4 years than was expected. I have a couple of ideas that could be pushed over the next month, while I am 'suspended'...
- it's in New Zealand, which is where I would like to end up. Admittedly, it in Palmerston North, which is not so hot...
- cheap accomodation, owing to it being Palmy.
- it's history, and I love history.
- have you seen the pay? Starting from about $62,000, which seems a wealth to me!
Cons:
- it's history, and I'd also love to teach Old English, which is not currently on offer at Massey. Other literature I'd be happy to leave.
- I don't have any experience teaching history - only English at a whole range of levels.
- its in Palmerston North. There's nothing else there.
- What would zcatcurious do? He can easily finish his thesis from there, but is worried about the size of the library (Auckland's is the best!). And I think he was hoping to leave NZ for a while.
There's not really much chance that I'd get the job, but the thing is, if I apply, what happens if I DO get it? Do we move? Does this mean I shouldn't be planting for Spring? While I'm sure we could find a nice, large house a long way from the actual town, it would be very hard to leave here, with the view, and the landlords. And then there's family. I don't mind being a couple of towns away from Mum, but my sister is also here, and it would make it much harder to meet up for lunch (about a 10 hour drive).
But, is it not stupid not to try? Help!!
